Obagi® Blue Peel

If a facelift would be too much for you, yet daily skin products aren’t strong enough for your needs, consider an Obagi® Blue Peel.

As a minimally invasive “medium” chemical peel, the Obagi ® Blue Peel is outstanding at reducing superficial wrinkles, acne scarring and pitting, blemishes, and uneven pigmentation (such as sunspots, melasma or “mask of pregnancy,” freckling due to skin damage, etc.).

At your consultation, we’ll review your skin type and medical history, and we’ll talk about the number of peels needed to achieve your desired result. Blue Peels are available for people of all skin types and tones. Obagi® products have a strong reputation in clinical skin care. We also carry Obagi®-C Rx products, which are ideal for follow-up care after your Blue Peel.

If you are considering a Blue Peel, it is critical that you choose a properly trained aesthetician working under physician’s supervision. At Salem Women’s Clinic you will have the peace of mind knowing that you are being cared for under a physician’s directive.

Patient Instructions:

  • Please tell us about any past history of keloids, sun sensitivity, or prior skin treatments.
  • Please note that Blue Peels are not for women who are pregnant or nursing.
  • Patients currently taking Accutane are not candidates for Blue Peels. Please inform us of any past usage of Accutane.
  • Please alert us to any health conditions you many have, including allergies and chronic conditions.
  • Before your procedure, please refrain from using lotions or other oily products on your skin.
  • Before, as well as after your procedure, please stay out of the sun. If you cannot avoid the sun, use sunscreen diligently!

Redness, drying, and irritation are common side effects. A mild bluish tint to the skin will disappear in about one week. In rare cases, blisters or sores could appear.

FAQs

We're here to answer your questions and concerns, just send us an email.

  • Does a Blue Peel hurt?

The peel itself takes about 30 minutes to perform and does not require sedation. Patients say they feel a stinging sensation that usually subsides after a few minutes.

  • Will I need to take time off of work after my Peel?

Yes—at least a day, possibly more. You should allow your skin time to lose the blueish tint from the active ingredient in the Peel, which washes off gradually over the course of a few days. In the days following your treatment, your face and neck might look sun burned. It is crucial that you avoid the sun! The peeling and redness last about 7 – 10 days.

  • What’s the difference between the results I might get from Affirm Laser Skin Facial treatments versus a Blue Peel?

The end results are the same, but the ways to get there are different. Affirm Laser Treatments are done several times, every 30 days and there is no down time. With the Blue Peel there is significant redness and peeling that lasts 7 – 10 days. For clients seeking a more gentle treatment every month, Affirm Laser Facial treatments are ideal. For clients wishing for faster, more aggressive treatment over less time, an Obagi® Blue Peel is the perfect solution.

  • When will I see results from a Blue Peel?

In the weeks immediately following your Blue Peel, the skin on your face and neck will slough off. Do not use harsh exfoliating methods, as your skin will be tender. Please avoid the sun! In four to six weeks you will begin to see the true results of your Blue Peel: firmer, tighter, clearer skin that glows with vitality.

It’s called a Blue Peel because…

  • A special blue dye has been added that allows us to monitor the absorption of the active ingredient, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), hence the name Blue Peel. TCA is not absorbed through the skin, so there are no internal toxic effects. It is a slow acting solution that helps remove dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new skin cells, resulting in improved texture and tone of the skin.
